Taking those socks from work to play
Our first sock pick of the #FreeYourSkeins2015 mission brings us ‘Business Casual’ by Tanis Lavallee. The perfect combination of simplicity and classic Argyle styling, these socks make a statement both at work and at play. The slipped stitch detailing adds interest for the knitter and picks out the colours in the yarn.
This would be a great pattern for semi solid and variegated yarns, as the slipped stitches allow you to break up a busy variegation and tone it down if necessary. Even better, it’s a free pattern! Perfect for either gentlemen or ladies.
For socks, you’re looking at a yarn with a bit of nylon for strength and durability, ideally. A 75% Merino/25% Nylon is always going to be a strong contender, as is a high twist 100% Merino yarn. You could up the luxury with a base containing a little silk, however this may make the sock structure a bit less firm. It’s also a great choice for breed yarns that are strong and lustrous, such as BFL or Wensleydale.
What would you knit this pattern in?
