Texture on the toes
It’s another sock day here at #FreeYourSkeins2015 and we have a free pattern for the wonderful ‘Azurdrachen’ by Julia Kupferfeder as a suggestion to grace your needles. Encompassing travelling stitches and just the right amount of texture, these socks are as pretty in a semi solid as they are in a variegated yarn, as the project pictures will attest. There are some really pretty socks showcased there, particularly those in which the colour has pooled and emphasised certain areas of the pattern.
Yarn-wise, as with most textured socks, lighter shades will highlight the pattern better than darker hues. Don’t be afraid to experiment with highly variegated colour ways here, as these socks can clearly cope with such dyeing techniques. As it’s a sock, you’re looking at high twist or a blend with a little nylon for best longevity, with a high twist yarn adding structure and crunch to the stitch pattern.
