Mix it up with texture

If you’re the kind of person who likes to be entertained whilst you’re knitting, patterns with acres of stocking stitch are probably not going to be your idea of a good time. Luckily, the ever changing pattern of the Geology Shawl by Very Busy Monkey is sure to keep the interest high. Made up of strata of different textured stitches, this clever design gives an ideal opportunity to show off semi solid and solid yarns. The pretty interplay between the lace sections and the geometric textured sections gives an interesting overall effect to the shawl.

To make the most of the design features in this shawl, I’d recommend a high twist, sock-suitable yarn, which will give good, crisp stitch definition and allow the pattern to really stand out. Although you can use slightly variegated and self striping yarns – and people have before, looking at the project pages – semi solid and solid yarns are going to be your best option.

What would you knit yours in?
