Colour play

Got a couple of half-skeins you’d like to use up? Want to break up the crazy in a highly variegated skein of yarn, perhaps? The ‘Prickly’ mitts could be the ones for you.

With a funky little slipped stitch pattern and contrasting cuffs at the wrists and fingers, this pattern was specifically designed to eliminate pooling in patterned yarns. Great for using up leftovers and jazzing up otherwise pedestrian semi-solids, it’s pattern you could use over and over. These mitts would make brilliant gifts if you can bear to give them away; I’d be tempted to create a whole series to match every outfit.

Base-wise, it’s all about the sock-suitable blends to make these mitts hardwearing, as you’ll probably never have them off in spring and autumn. They’d also look fabulous in natural sheepy shades and would be a great small project to try out some breed yarns.

What would you knit yours in?
