Great in green – or any colour!
The ‘Evergreen Socks’ have been on the radar since a wave of casting on of this pattern on Christmas Eve in a knit-along. The perfect mix of simple detailing and festive design, it’s a pattern that will remind you of forests, pine cones and the crunching of needles under your feet the year round.
This particular pair have been knitted in a skein from The Golden Skein Autumn Club, dyed by Katie at Sylvan Tiger Yarns onto her 100% High Twist BFL base. She aimed to recreate the turning of the leaves from green to brown using natural dye techniques; Deb has captured that perfectly in this beautiful pairing of yarn and pattern. If you now need to have this yarn, there are one or two skeins remaining which you can find here.
As you can see, a semi solid colour way is an excellent choice for this pattern, to allow the delicate lace details of the tree motif to stand out. A high twist yarn gives excellent stitch definition plus more hard wearing properties. The BFL in the yarn shown adds its signature lustre; the pattern would work just as well in a 75/25 merino/nylon or even a BFL/nylon blend, to really increase durability.
What would you knit yours in?
