You had me at the fuchsia pom pom with the ‘Owlness’ hat by Clare Slade. It’s a fun way to use up some leftovers to create a cute hat which can be totally kitsch or a little more understated, depending upon your colour choice.

This hat would be very cosy and drapey in an alpaca blend for the base. I can see the halo on this type of yarn softening the overall effect beautifully. It’s also a great candidate for sock-suitable blends such as the ubiquitous 75/25 merino/nylon or the slightly more exotic 80/20 BFL/nylon. A silk blend would add a touch of sophistication to this otherwise super-playful accessory, particularly if knitted in a subtle colour way.

What would you knit this in?
