Slouchy and beret pattern in one

The great ‘Sophora’ pattern by Woolly Wormhead gives you two options in one: either a slouchy hat or a beret. With the pretty faux cabled detailing on both versions (the crown cabling on the beret is especially eye-catching) this pattern gives lots of options for creating the perfect hat.

For this pattern, a high twist sock yarn or another blend with good stitch definition in the finished object will show the cabling off to best effect. Semi-solid colour ways will allow the detail to stand out, whilst the beret version would be pretty in an alpaca blend.

What would you knit this pattern in?
