Introducing the latest collection from Louise Zass-Bangham

Welcome to the seventh stop on the Inspirations Knits ‘Palette’ Blog Tour. The Golden Skein was delighted to be included in the blog tour for Louise Zass-Bangham’s latest mini-collection. Her designs are extremely popular with our customers, as well as ourselves. Louise is as fond of beautifully hand dyed skeins as we are, which is really showcased in her design work. She pays particular attention to creating patterns to highlight those pretty, variegated skeins that can occasionally be a little difficult to match to a design. This has created a portfolio of patterns that work for a wide range of skeins and dyeing techniques.

Painted

A superb pattern for highly colourful yarns, yet with enough detail to add interest to a solid colour way, ‘Painted’ calls for 365 to 400m of fingering weight yarn. With instructions included in the pattern to both maximise the amount of yarn used and to avoid pooling, it’s one we had to get on the needles and test-drive with one of our own yarns, dyed for The Golden Skein. It’s all about scientific results here. And because we believe in the ‘go big or go home’ philosophy, we went for the brightest, most colourful skein ever created for us: ‘Hullabaloo’ by BaT’at Hand Dyed Yarns.

As far as the pattern goes, the result is a very pretty scarf, with different elements of the yarn being highlighted by the vintage stitch pattern used in the design. It’s an entirely appropriate knit night or travel project, as the repeat is easily memorised, yet has enough going on to maintain interest. Here’s our progress so far.

If you’d like a shawl with the squish and warmth of a heavier yarn, you’ll also find ‘Fresco’ in the collection. Designed for DK or worsted weight yarn, it’s a triangular shawl, calling for 512m of your chosen weight. It uses the same stitch pattern as that in ‘Painted’.
