The name ‘The Golden Skein’ came from the idea that in your stash there will be a skein of yarn that is somewhat of a favourite: beautiful, soft and lovely. This is your favourite skein above all skeins. You are probably afraid of knitting this skein in case you fail to do it justice in the finished object. You will get it out and fondle it occasionally, give it a good, long sniff, and place it carefully back in your stash. This is your Golden Skein.

But wouldn’t it be great if all the skeins were Golden Skeins?

That’s where we come in…

Creators of exclusive yarn clubs, The Golden Skein is the place to come to find exclusive, custom dyed yarns from independent dyers from across the globe. We commission and curate yarn collections for your knitting and crocheting pleasure. With a variety of different club themes, there is sure to be an option to suit every taste and budget.

The Golden Skein is the brainchild of Jo Milmine (aka Shinybees) egged on by Kate Ellis (aka Kate’s Twirl).  You can read all about them in our blog post: Who are Jo and Kate.

This is our blog, which chats about all things yarn, reviews of our latest yarns and general posts about  any yarn shows that Kate and Jo have visited.

Our main website: The Golden Skein has a ‘meet the dyer section’, where you can find out a little more about each dyer we work with and how each dyer finds inspiration for their beautiful colourways.

  1. My favorite skein is probably the one I’m working with now. It’s by Skein Yarns of Australia, colorway “Sea Salt”, a fingering wight. When I bought it, it appeared to be a tonal colorway – blues. But, as I knit with it, a lot of colors are appearing, from gray-blue to soft blue, even a teal blue and a bit of navy. I think it wouldn’t work for Painted – I like Hullabaloo for that!
